What is dimmable led downlight?
Are all LED can lights dimmable?
Not all LED downlights are dimmable - BUT, you can convert them into a dimmable version. It’s easy to do and the LED design makes it possible.
Since the dimmable feature isn’t a standard among LED lights, you have to be clear in letting us know if you want to add this. That way, we can build the dimmable LED downlights as per your request.
Are dimmable lights worth it?
The answer to this will depend on where you plan to use the dimmable LED lights. There are areas in a home that doesn’t require dimmable features. While there are those that are perfect for that type of lighting solution.
It’s all about the purpose and the location where you want to use the dimmable LED lights. Workspaces like kitchen counters won’t have a need for dimmable lights. It always requires bright lights.
So make sure you plan where to put the lights first before you decide if it’s a worthwhile investment or not.
If you’re not sure about where to position your lights, our team of experts is ready to help.
Can I use an incandescent dimmer with LED lights?
Since LED lights and incandescent lights work differently, it’s not advisable to use incandescent dimmers and pair them with LED lights. The incandescent lights are traditional and use a filament that heats up to produce light.
Your best option is to use the exact dimmer that’s intended for recessed dimmable LED lights. Ask us about the LED dimmers that we have available.
What happens if you put a non-dimmable LED bulb in a dimmer?
It’s not ideal to put a non-dimmable LED bulb in a dimmer.
Dimmers are switches that are designed with variable resistors. This allows it to change the brightness intensity of a light fixture.
Usually, these dimmers can support advanced technology lights like LEDs and CFLs. But not all these lights are meant to be dimmed. If you attach it to non-dimmable LED lights, this can compromise the integrity and function of the light fixture.
The only way it can work is if the dimmer is 100% or if it allows the light to be fully on. If you put it in between, the light will flicker and produce a buzzing sound. It’ll eventually cause irreparable damage to the bulb.
If you need dimmable LED downlights, let us know. We’ll give you a quote.
Are dimmers bad for light bulbs?
Dimmers aren’t exactly bad for light bulbs. The way dimmers work, they limit the electricity that flows into the bulb. This puts less strain on the bulb to shine brighter and longer. That means when you use dimmers properly, it can extend the bulb’s lifespan.
Not only that, but it can also save energy because you can limit the electrical consumption as needed.
We offer different dimmers and recessed LED downlights. Get your quote now.
What is the difference between a leading edge and trailing edge dimmers?
There are two types of light dimmers.
Both are used for phase cutting types of dimmers. As the name suggests, the leading edge is used by dimmers that cut the front edge of the half-cycle of every AC wave. The trailing edge, on the other hand, cut the second half of every half cycle.
Let us know if you want your dimmer to be leading edge or trailing edge. You can specify your preference by talking to our customer support.
How do I know if my dimmer switch is LED compatible?
It is best to look at the product details to learn if the dimmer switch is compatible with an LED light bulb. Manufacturers must specify whether the product is compatible with LED bulbs. If there’s none, feel free to ask. Or you can go find another product that has the right labels. Make sure you also check the maximum load capacity to ensure that you’re buying the right LED light bulb.
Can LED recessed lights be dimmed?
Yes, recessed lights can be dimmed as long as it uses LED light. Fluorescent light bulbs can be dimmed unless it uses a dimmable ballast.
For lighting experts, they prefer to use LED downlights anyway. So if you want to install recessed downlights, make sure you use LED. The hidden lights give off a clean-looking design. It can also help highlight areas without the fixture ruining the overall look. All you’ll see is the brightness emanating from it.

What is the difference between dimmable and non-dimmable LED?
You can find the difference between dimmable and non-dimmable LED downlights in their parts. LED lights that are dimmable have a special circuit that allows them to respond to dimmer switches. The dimming effect is produced by adapting to the changes in forms.
Non-dimmable LED downlights can only be turned ON or OFF. There’s no circuit inside that allows it to be dimmed gradually.
Can you use a non-dimmable LED bulb with a dimmer switch?
Dimmer switches work only with lights that come with dimming features such as LEDs, CFLs, and other advanced lighting technology. Lights should mention specifically that they can be dimmed.
The moment you use a dimmer switch on a non-dimmable LED bulb, you’ll eventually destroy it. So don’t use it together. The dimmer might cause the bulb to overheat and be a fire hazard.
If you need to look at dimmable LED downlights, we have several designs for you to choose from.
Why do LED lights flicker on dimmer?
The primary cause of the flickering would depend on what light bulb you’re using.
If you’re using non-dimmable LED downlights, the flicker is caused by the inability of the bulb to dim the lights.
If it’s a dimmable LED downlight that’s flickering, it might be a problem with the dimmer switch. You see, these switches have a minimum compatible load or Watts it can process. That means an LED downlight with high wattage requires a dimmer switch with a high minimum load capacity.
If you’ve got compatible downlights and switches, it might be an issue with the mode on the dimmer switch. You can change the mode or just reset it to factory settings.
Are dimmer switches unhealthy?
It depends on what you get. There are dimmer switches - even light bulbs, that can emit toxic electrical frequencies. If there’s a lot of dimmer switches at home, it might cause increased health risks.
This is why it’s important for you to choose a reputable manufacturer when buying dimmer switches and dimmable LED downlights.
Make sure you take into consideration the hazards that come with having a mismatched dimmer switch and light bulb. If they don’t have the same load capacity, it might be a fire hazard.
You can ask our light experts to know if our dimmable LED downlights are the right fit for your dimmer switches.
How many LED lights can I put on a dimmer?
When it comes to quantity, you can put more than 10 LED bulbs on one dimmer switch. But this will still depend on the specific dimmer switch that you’ll buy.
It’s also important that you consider the maximum rating of the dimmer switch. Like if the dimmer switch has a max rating of 200W, it can run 4 of 50W dimmable LED downlights.
Talk to our experts if you want help in determining how many dimmer switches and LED downlights you should get.
Are dimmable lights more expensive?
Yes, the main reason why dimmable LED downlights are more expensive is because of the additional technology that it has. You see, it has circuitry that’s not included in non-dimmable LED lights. This circuit allows it to accept the changing phases that come from the dimmer switch.
Although the dimmable lights are more expensive, it would still be worth it. Why? Because it allows you to save on electricity. Instead of having the lights on full blast all the time, you can choose to dim it. Dimming the lights mean it won’t consume as much energy.
And if you get LED lights, you’ll save even more. These lights are durable, long-lasting, naturally energy-efficient, and don’t require high maintenance.
Do dimmers cause fires?
Yes, sometimes dimmer switches can cause fires. But there are ways to avoid this problem.
First of all, you have to make sure that the dimmer switch and lights are compatible. If the wattage capacity isn’t the same, it might become a fire hazard.
Not only that, using dimmer switches on non-dimmable lights can cause the bulb to overheat. That can also make it a fire hazard.
